Amritsar (also called Ambarsar) is a city in the north western Indian state of Punjab, not far from the border with Pakistan. At the center of its walled old town is the gilded Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), considered the holiest gurdwara, or religious Complex, of the Sikh religion. It’s at the end of a causeway, surrounded by the sacred Amrit Sarovar lake, where pilgrims bathe.

Itinerary

DAY 01

ARRIVE AMRITSTAR

Meeting by local representative on arrival and assistance at the airport. Transfer to hotel for check in. 

Overnight stay at hotel.

DAY 02

BREAKFAST

After breakfast visit the Golden Temple: 

  • Sri Harmandir Sahib – (The Abode of God) also Sri Darbar Sahib Punjabi Pronunciation and informally referred to as the “Golden Temple“, is the holiest Gurdwara of Sikhism, located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India.
  •  Golden Temple – (literally, the tank of nectar of immortality) was founded in 1577 by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das. The fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan, designed the Harmandir Sahib to be built in the centre of this holy tank, and upon its construction, installed the Adi Granth, the holy scripture of Sikhism, inside the Harmandir Sahib. The Harmandir Sahib complex is also home to the Akal Takht (the throne of the timeless one, constituted by the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind). While the Harmandir Sahib is regarded as the abode of God’s spiritual attribute, the Akal Takht is the seat of God’s temporal authority.
  • After worshipping Akal Takht Sahib visit Durgiana Temple.
  • Later in the evening visit:
  • Wagah Border – famous for its ‘Retreat’ ceremony in time of sunset. Armed soldiers, both Indian as well as Pakistani, fully decked in their uniform enacts a particularly hostile parade marked by lowering of their respective flags and closing the border gates. The changing of the guards and the ceremonial lowering of the flags is carried out with great pomp and fervor. Proceed to Hotel for dinner.
  • Overnight stay at hotel.

DAY 02

DAY 03

  • After breakfast visit Gurudwara Beer Baba Budha Sahib, Gurudwara San Sahib, Gurudwara Chheharta Sahib etc.
  • Gurdwara Beed Baba Budda Sahib – situated on Chaabal Amritsar road near village Jhabal Kalan in district Amritsar Punjab India. Baba Buddha ji spent much of his life here. Guru Arjan Dev also visited this place at some stage. Also known as Gurudwara Bir Baba Buddha, this is situated in the revenue limits of the village of Thatta, 20 km south of Amritsar. The shrine honours and commemorates Baba Buddha (1506 – 1631), the venerable Sikh of the time of Guru Nanak who lived long enough to anoint five succeeding Gurus.
  • He spent many years looking after the “bir”, literally a reserved forest used for cattle grazing, said to have been offered to Guru Arjan by Chaudhari Langah of Patti out of his private lands. According to Gurbilas Chhevin Patshahi, it was here on 21 Assu 1651 Bk/20 September 1594, that Mata Ganga the wife of Guru Arjan, received blessings for an illustrious son (the future Guru Har Gobind, Nanak VI) from Baba Buddha.
  • Enjoy Langar at Gurudwara Sahib.
  • Drive back to hotel and overnight stay.

DAY 04

  • Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 13 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies of Punjab state in northern India. This new constituency came into existence as a part of the implementation of delimitation of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in 2008
  • Khadoor Sahib, Gurudwara Goindwal Sahib, Gurudwara Mata Kaulan, Gurudwara Taran Taran Sahib.
  • Enjoy Langar at Gurudwara Sahib. 
  • Rest of the half day is free at your own for leisure and shopping.
  • Drive back to hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

DAY 04

DAY 05

BREAKFAST 

AMRITSAR – FULL DAY

  • After  breakfast proceed to Jallianwala Bagh, Gobindgarh fort, Central Sikh Museam, Sun City, Harike welland and bird Sanctuary Etc.
  •  Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden in Amritsar in the Punjab state of India, and houses a memorial of national importance, established in 1951 by the Government of India, to commemorate the massacre of peaceful celebrators including unarmed women and children by British occupying forces, on the occasion of the Punjabi New Year on April 13, 1919 in the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Colonial British Raj sources identified 379 fatalities and estimated about 1100 wounded. Civil Surgeon Dr. Smith indicated that there were 1,526 casualties. The true figures of fatalities are unknown, but are likely to be many times higher than the official figure of 379.

  • After breakfast proceed to Maharaja Ranjit singh Museum, Dukh Bhanyali Beri, Dera Baba, Rambagh Garden, Mata Lal Devi Mandir Etc.
  • Maharaja Ranjit Singh November 13 1780 – 27 June 1839), was the founder of the Sikh Empire, which came to power in the northwest of the Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century. He survived smallpox in infancy but lost sight in his left eye. He fought his first battle alongside his father at age 10. After his father died, he fought several wars to expel the Afghans in his teenage years, and was proclaimed as the “Maharaja of Punjab” at age 21. His empire grew in the Punjab region under his leadership through 1839. Prior to his rise, the Punjab region had numerous warring misls (confederacies), twelve of which were under Sikh rulers and one Muslim. Ranjit Singh successfully absorbed and united the Sikh Misls and took over other local kingdoms to create the Sikh Empire. He repeatedly defeated invasions by Muslim armies, particularly those arriving from Afghanistan, and established friendly relations with the British.

DAY 07

BREAKFAST 

AMRITSAR – ONWARD DESTINATION

  • After breakfast free to explore the interesting shopping places. Amritsar city is famous for its traditional handicraft and handloom products including Phulkari, lacquered woodwork, jewellery etc. Other interesting items available at Amritsar includes punjabi suits, woollen garments and patiala salwar suits.
  • Late afternoon transfer to airport for departure to onward destination.
